Whether you are thinking about ordering a neon sign, or you have just received your creation, you may be wondering how to install it and how it all works. Owning a neon sign is very exciting, but it’s important that you install it correctly and look after it.
In our latest blog, we offer some top tips on installing and using your neon sign.
Most of the neon signs we create are for internal use. This includes your living room, office or behind the bar! For that reason, our neon signs come already mounted on an acrylic panel or in an acrylic case. This makes them easily portable, which is great if you want to move your neon sign around and try it in different places.
Your neon sign will come complete with a normal mains plug and is supplied ready to hang on the wall! The sign just needs to be fixed to the wall, or suspended from the chain that comes with it. Then, simply plug it in and you’re good to go.
There are instances where you might not want your neon sign fitted on to a backing. This is often the case when you’d prefer the neon sign to be fixed directly on to the wall. In this case, it’s important that you seek a neon sign installer. This can ensure your sign is installed correctly and doesn’t suffer any damage.
While we don’t have our own installation team, we can put you in touch with a network of installers to help.
Once your neon sign has been hung successfully in whichever room you have chosen, it’s important that you take care of it properly. The typical life-span of the neon tubes is around 10 years. While the transformer may need replacing during this time, it is a relatively straightforward task.
Our neon signs are powered through the mains plug, but it’s possible to operate your sign from a light switch. However, there are regulations regarding this, and you should look into it first.
A high electric current passes through the glass tubes in order to make the gas light up. This can leave people wondering whether a neon sign can be dangerous. If a glass tube broke, the power is immediately cut off, so there is no electric current passing through.
Often, neon signs are hung in places where it can be easily knocked into. If this is the case, you should make sure the neon has a clear cover over the front of it for protection.
